Truthfulness Aletheia
Telling the truth about yourself and what happened, without bragging or downplaying it.
19 moments from Aim’s letters home, newest first. Each letter opens with the part that shows truthfulness highlighted.
What's actually happening inside the Lamentum Institute
Afterward she told me what she had felt in that moment, and it went something like: "I was sad because Petra was dead, and I was mad because Arkanis was yelling, and I felt guilty because I thought it was partly my fault, but I was also kind of happy because the way he picked her up showed me he really loved her."

I want to be honest with you about why. The last stretch has taught me something I maybe should have already known — a school like Aim asks its leader to live inside it, not near it.

But yes, if truth be told I must admit I am in a very unproductive cycle right now. My heart hurts. My brain tries to make sense of it all.
Read the letter →Work hard, play hard. The new motto for ES.
As I have reflected on the ES's journey, it's pretty interesting to note that while the choices impacting their tribe were the right decisions at the time, the cumulative effect of them has missed the mark. Which may be why 4 out of the last 5 eagles who have leveled up to the middle school failed to do so on time 🤔
Read the letter →My biggest takeaway from this morning?
Without an ounce of ill-willed judgment, they shredded many of the comments we all made this morning in the Parent Meeting. They pointed out inconsistencies, logical fallacies, victim mindsets, arguments that needed to be organized better, times they felt some of us needed to take stronger stands...the list went on.

I say this with love: I think you might be missing the whole point. It's not your challenge, your project, or your badge. This is their hero's journey.

But I was scared to death. Our studio was balancing on the edge of a knife, teetering between success and ruin. I had heard too many stories of Actons shutting down after 1-2 years.

Their hope is that more will realize when they are breaking a promise and just need to give up the Eagle Buck.

They did not want to confess to something they hadn't done. But they didn't want to be denied the ability to return to the game and help their team. Many of the accused witches' fellow travelers stuck back in their house rooms with closed ports wrote letters urging them to confess and get out of prison. Over time, all but one had succumbed. As much as this eagle wanted to help her colony, I believe she had something to prove to herself...and that was more important.

As you review this week with your learner, encourage them to share their failures in addition to their successes. Much of what they are doing at Aim Academy are new skills and they will fall a lot at first.

I have never given a challenge or consequence to the school that I have not followed up on so they knew I meant what I said.

At first, some were uncertain they wanted to hear what they needed to improve. Yet, they all said that they wanted others to be honest with them. When giving feedback and rating their peers, many felt stumped when they got to the part of telling someone what they could improve. For many Eagles this part was harder than receiving feedback.

The Excellence Committee is honing in on their standards of what is acceptable and what is not. They are working through how to hold audits and what to do if work doesn't meet the standards. A couple Eagles mentioned that they don't feel like the committee is there yet, but is working on it.

Some Eagles wished they would have spent less time at the PLAY Lab and more time on their game. Others thought they could have spent more time on preparations for the Exhibition.

An additional area of agreement was that if you are on the receiving end of those words, you have the responsibility to make a decision: accept responsibility for your actions and give up an Eagle Buck, bring it to the Disputes Committee or choose neither and receive a strike.

She continued by saying that these discussions always end with everyone agreeing to hold each other accountable in the following week. Yet— she said— they end up talking about it again at Town Hall the following Friday. Her call to action was acknowledged by the studio, as they recommitted to doing better in this area in the week to come.

It was inspiring to hear the Eagles speak candidly about the significance of honesty in relationships, the role of courage in holding others accountable and the importance of creativity in self-expression.
